EV Guide - Part Four Pokecentral 101 : A Pokemon Trainer School

EV Guide written by SuperFlanker and Jonaz

Rare Candies:

Rare candies, anyone who has played Pokemon knows very well what a rare candy is, it's that magical little piece of candy that levels your Pokemon up by one stage. But, they're crafty little suckers, rare candies may increase the level of your Pokemon, but they do not give you any EV's at all, so in essence, they're completely worthless for EV training. They affect nothing but level.

Level 100's:

Another important thing to note about EV's is that they can only be gained whenever a Pokemon gains exp, or experience points. Why this is notable is because that means it's impossible for you to train level 100 Pokemon.

Tips and Tricks:

Tip#1: Experience Share. If you have a Pokemon that you want to EV train, but it's at too low of a level to even fight on its own, the Experience Share could be useful a useful tool for you, this gives the particular Pokemon who's holding it the same EV's as the Pokemon who's fighting and he gets experience points as well! This way, you can EV train him without the hassle and level him up all at once. But be weary, you can't use the hold items with this method, so the process will be a bit longer.

Tip#2: Swapping. This is almost the same as the Experience Share tip, except you send the weak Pokemon you would like to train out first, switch to a stronger Pokemon, faint the opponent, and repeat the process. This way you can still use a hold item while you EV train, but some people don't like swapping out, this overall is quicker than the Experience Share method. Also, keep in mind that you have to switch in for every new Pokemon that comes out if you're battling a trainer.

Tip#3: Daycare. If you want to EV train a Pokemon on its own without having to use the Experience Share or the Swap method, then you can leave them in the daycare until they're on a high enough level to fight for themselves as the daycare will not give any EV's to your Pokemon. You also have to be weary of them erasing your precious egg moves, so my suggestion is that you check to see when a Pokemon will learn moves, take it out one level before it learns the move, level it one level using a rare candy and say "no" to learning the move and place it back in the daycare, then repeat.

Tip#4: Counter App. This is one of the more common tips out there, just use the Poketch counter app to keep track of how many EV's you have. This makes for a simple and convenient way to keep track of your EV's.

Tip#5:Effort Ribbon. You can obtain the effort ribbon for a Pokemon when they're maxed out at 510 english, in Sunnyshore city if you go into the seal mart and talk to the lady behind the counter and if you've got a sum total of 510 EV's you'll obtain the effort ribon.
